The horrible bigots of the 1930s and 1940s, in the United States and elsewhere, who were obsessed at the time with ethnic bigotry and ethnic (so called “racial”) segregation, as they discriminated, for example, against Americans of African heritage, for many years postulated the flagrant notion that all people of African ancestry were somehow “biologically inferior” to people of European ancestry, intellectually inferior in particular, and that therefore bigotry that included employment discrimination, segregation, and so on, were are all consequently “reasonable” social restrictions. Such horrific notions were even part of the U.S. government’s revolting basis for segregating the U.S. military until 1948, and for its exclusion of people of African ancestry from most combat activities during World War II (although African Americans given the opportunity to battle Hitler’s horrible Nazis, such as the famous Tuskegee Airmen, did so with extraordinary distinction, including the Medal of Honor awarded to some of them). In the United State, ethnic segregation was even institutionalized to the point of criminalization via what were disgustingly called “anti-miscegenation” statutes. In fact, it wasn’t until the 1967 U.S. Supreme Court ruling, Loving v. Virginia, that interethnic marriage in the U.S. was decriminalized nationally. Among the most fervent proponents of such bigoted ethnic bigotry where eugenicists such as Margaret Sanger (founder of Planned Parenthood), who even gave speeches at Klu Klux Klan rallies on the subject.
Turning to the present, James Damore, fired by his employer Google, isn’t the first bigoted proponent of eugenics style notions in the name of sex/gender based bigotry, with the absurd claim that female people are somehow intellectually inferior to male people, and therefore biologically unsuited to scientific endeavor. In 2005, then President of Harvard University, Lawrence H. Summers even made such claims about women in scientific endeavor publicly, claims similar to the claims made by the deplorable fool James Damore. The ever self-assured James Damore even used misleading “statistics”, just as the proponents of eugenics before him, in his infamous Google memo, which led to Google firing him, to make his specious argument that he believes female people are “intellectually inferior” and therefore not fit for employment in the software development profession, just as the eugenicists before him employed similar rhetorical strategies to fashion their idiotic bigoted polemics against people of African anecstry.
One of the abhorrent characteristics displayed by such bigots, racists, misogynists, and such, is their extreme arrogance and steadfast defense of their scientifically indefensible claims. James Damore is consistent with his predecessors in this regard. Like other bigots, right down to the latest generation of putrid Neo-Nazis who rallied not long ago in Virginia, they lurk everywhere, often silently, as they continue to maintain their bigoted views even when silent, with anti-African-American bigots largely having remained underground (so to speak) until recently. But there seems to be something brewing within current political discourse that is leading bigots such as James Damore to believe that a window of opportunity for them exists, to rise up, to shamelessly declare anew their extraordinarily evil notions of Aryan superiority, arrogantly declaring the rest of humanity inferior to them and unfit to work, play, or even exist, on equal footing with them.
Bigots such as James Damore should never be silenced. Bigots like James Damore should be encouraged to express their views, so that people know who they are, so that people know what they think, so that people can better refute the idiocy they proclaim, even as they then cast themselves as woeful “victims” remaining steadfast in their indefensibly offensive claims even as James Damore does on his website, which he has ironically named “fired for truth” (which incredibly still exists!), in classic unapologetic eugenicist fashion. James Damore remains completely unapologetic, and unabashedly, shamelessly, arrogant with his bigotry!
