Creating the Flourish of Flora Photo Series

This photography project, my Flourish of Flora photo series, involved hour upon hour of extensive photo production work over the course of several weekends in order to produce these photographs. Because horticultural photographs are best produced during the early morning and/or the late evening, this project involved arising early in the morning, before dawn, to be ready at dawn, to venture out and create these photos of summer flowers, over the course of numerous weekend mornings and evenings end upon end, on safari for gardens with summer blooming flowers, and on safari for the inspirational perspectives through a camera viewfinder that make these photographs, and this type of photography both technically and artistically possible.

Of particular note are the day lily blossoms. A day lily blossom last literally just one day, and then it withers. Capture photographs of day lily blossoms involved scouting for them, estimating when they will bloom, and then returning for the one day they burst forth with truly divine wonder. These photographs are only possible, also, because of the homeowners who spend hours upon hours planting and nurturing their flower gardens every year, then watering and weeding their gardens so that their flowering plants thrive and bloom each Spring and Summer season.
